BSA made bicycles, and then motorcycles, Raleigh made bicycles, and then motorcycles, so did Sunbeam, and also for Royal Enfield.
This 1920 sales catalogue for Royal Enfield includes both bicycles and motorcycles and with only 2 different capacity motorcycles available survival of the company must surely have been aided by the sale of bicycles, in this case 18 pushbikes were on offer. Interesting names like Riche Duplex Girder Lady’s Model 151, the Riche Duplex Girder Roadster Model 161, the Standard Road Racer Model 94 (looks to be a bit of a ball cruncher), the Constabulary Model 120, and my favourite – The Tradesman Carrier Cycle Model 99. Fitted with a basket up front it would be great to relocate bottles of amber liquid from one residence to another.
It is well worth a look.
