Planning a weekend getaway from your job. Well how about competing in the Taupo to Napier Mail Run on the 20th March 2021.
Organised by the Hawkes Bay Classic Motorcycle Club they will be celebrating their 32th event. The attractiveness of this event is that it is not a timed competition, just a case more of follow the leader (or the rider in front).
It starts with a gathering of zimmer frames pilots, and youngsters, at the Cobb & Co, Tongariro St, Taupo, for a sit down meal at 7.30pm. Full use of your “Gold Card” is encouraged.
The ride will leave the Taupo Marina at 10am the next morning, with the first stop at the Rangetiki tea rooms to regroup. There is a lunch stop at the Tarawera Cafe (at your expense of course), then with a planned arrival in Napier around 3pm for a static display outside the Masonic (provided that you don’t get lost).
The Saturday evening meal and prize giving will be at the RSA, 34 Vautier Street, Napier, starting at 7pm.
So if you have a girder fork motorcycle, or a rigid framed sprung saddle machine then this event is just for you.
And as an incentive the club is offering a $100.00 for any Pre 1920 motorcycles entered that complete the Mail Run or part thereof. What an incentive to get that 1915 Royal Enfield out of its dusty corner, wax the tank, and pump up the tyres. Good one guys!!
Something that neither Knobby nor I have done but we both hope to in the near future, honest!!
