From the Clapham Series, of the Y.M.C.A or the Young Mens Christian Association.
An excellent detailed photograph and well worth the price paid.
The business operating within is the Tourist Motor Coy, and as can be seen were offering an array of automobiles and motorcycles. They were agents for E.M.F , Flanders, Talbot and Minerva cars, Triumph and possibly BSA motorcycles, as well as bicycle, motorcycle and car accessories.
Vehicles outside from left to right are a 3 wheeler AC Cyclecar, and a Minerva, both about 1910.
There appears to be a repair service offered as there is a ‘Garage’ sign on the left side of the photograph with a side or rear entrance for vehicle access to the building.
No street sign is visible and old street maps have failed to identify the buildings location.
The building itself is of a concrete design that was and still is found in many cities and towns today. As the devastating 1931 Napier Hastings earthquake destroyed over 200 buildings in Hastings alone the likelihood of this particular building having survived is not that great.
