What an impressive line up by Triumph for 1935 with a total of 13 models from 250, 350, 500, 550 side valve and OHV variations to the newly introduced 650cc OHV parallel twin Model 6/1. There were also 3 models of sidecar produced.
The Triumph 6/1 was produced from 1934 to 1936. Designed by ex-Ariel chief engineer Val Page the 6/1 was the first Triumph motorcycle to use a parallel-twin engine. In conducting experiments with a single bank of Edward Turner’s square four-engine design, Turner and Page both saw potential in the straight-twin as a motorcycle engine. From additional experiments, it was shown that a 360° crank angle was better suited to the use of a single carburettor than a 180° crank angle. A sidecar-equipped 6/1 won a silver medal in the 1933 International Six Days Trial and went on to win the Maudes Trophy for 1933 however the 6/1 was a commercial failure, selling fewer than 600 machines in two years on the market.
And of course my favourite would be the Model 5/10 500cc OHV 2 port single cylinder super tuned race model. Now that is a nice piece of kit as the English say.
