Adding to the library for Ariel owners is this very tidy owners guide for the 557cc Side Valve Model VB31 and the 497cc OHV Model VF31. Starting off with an impressive view from the cockpit the manual proceeds through to the usual instructions for staring, understanding the controls and then to the mechanicals. This includes the latest special Dry Sump Type of Lubrication, basically the first of the recirculating oiling systems (as opposed to the older type Total Loss Oiling System). And to enable the rider to keep an eye on what was happening Ariel have mounted an oil pressure gauge into the petrol tank. Ariel were also using their new Oil Purification System, a drilling in the crankshaft flywheel where particles in the oil would be collected by centrifugal force in the outer rim of the flywheel thus allowing the cleaner oil to go through to the big end. A very practical system that was used by Ducati bevel V twins in the 1970s.
The manual is of a high quality print, and has the usual valve timing, oil lubrication diagram, clutch, brake, valve and ignition adjustments. A complete manual for any vintage Ariel owner.

It is a 12.3M PDF.
We do have an Owners Manual for Ariel 1929 Models, the Model E or F (500cc O.H.V) and the Model A or B (550cc S.V.), the model designations may be different but basically the engines are the same mechanically as the VB and VF including the new Dry Sump Oiling System. We have done a comparison between the 1929 and the 1931 Owners Manual and there seems to be very little difference other than the petrol tank, handlebars and factory fitment of the electric headlight for the 1931 machines. We have put together the first 4 pages of the 1929 manual just to show the differences, the rest of the pages are mainly the same.
